When News Becomes Gossip

I was watching a talking head go on about the Chris Brown -Rhianna mess. It made me wonder : who cares? Where is the line between gossip and news? Are we that bored with our lives that we have to know what's going on with everyone else? I'm not talking about knowing what is happening in the world and in politics etc. I'm talking about this insatiable desire to turn EVERYTHING into a headline. I guess that comes with 24 hour news. They have to talk about something...
