Unpredictable Tests

Woke up to snow this morning. Tuesday strikes again! Today is one of those days that has the potential to be fruitful or crazy. There is a lot to do in a little time and the balance can drastically shift just like that. Plans are already changing. Things I expected have already begun to shift. There are funerals and visits and classes and even random acts of kindness that are all fighting for control.

I'm convinced that it's on days like this that I've got to lean on Jesus more than ever. I prayed Psalm 51 (I do that all the time!) this morning and I was instantly tested. God answers prayers like that quickly. I pray God give me a pure heart and I'm instantly thrust into a situation where I have to choose to be nice or ugly, patient or quick tempered, loving or selfish.

My prayer is that when I take these tests, I'll pass consitently.

Do you see all forms of adversity that people face as tests or only some? For example, starvation, incurable disease, being beaten to death...

I do think there's truth to what you say, but also find it's easy to overgeneralize about the ways of God based on one's own experience.

An example of this is when you hear survivors of crashes say things like "God must have a special purpose for me..." I doubt that this way of putting it would go down well with the family members of those who died in the crash.

Paul,

Thanks for reading!
The Bible says that God's ways are above our ways...so I hope you understand that in speaking of my own life that it would be impossible to generalize God. God transcends any box we may attempt to put Him in.

That being said, James 1:2-18 and Romans 5:3-5 are great examples in scripture that show that God CAN use hardship to develop our faith and character. It doesn't mean He always will. He also promises in Romans 8:28 that all things work together for the good of those who love Him. There are many who suffer because we live in a fallen and sinful world. Their trials are opportunities for follower of Christ to love them and help them.

I can't speak to the adversity that a non-follower of Christ may go through. The scriptures that I've cited speak to the believer who endures trouble during their walk with God. All I know is that He is in control, His ways are above my ways, and when things are going crazy...I will turst that He will see me through.
